The History of Children In Need

The BBC's first Children In Need broadcast appeal was in 1927, as a five minute Broadcast on Christmas Day. It raised £1,453, which equals £27,150 in modern money.
The first televison appeal took place on Christms day in 1955 and was called Children Hour Christmas Appeal, with presenters Sooty the bear and Mr Harry Corbett. The Christmas Appeals continued up until 1979 with celebraties such as Terry Hall, Eamonn Andrews, Leslie Crowther and Micheal Aspel. In that time a total of £625,836 was raised. Terry Wogan first appeared on a five minute broadcast in 1978 and again in 1979.
In 1980 the appeal was first broadcasted as a telethon. It was presented by Terry Wogan, Sue Lawley and Esther Ranzen. This show caught many people's attentions and the total was raised to 1 million.
Ever since then the total has been rising and rising, until this year, when the total dropped by a few million pounds. Hopefully we can do better next year.

The History of Pudsey Bear

Pudsey bear first appeared in 1985. He was created by Joanna Ball and named after her home town Pudsey in Yorkshire. He's now the Children In Need mascot and official logo. He has become more and more popular over the years and even little children know who he is where ever he goes.
